Post 18. Mother's Day 2017
As always Mother's Day is a rather stressful time for us, and no matter how much prep we do running up to the weekend we are always rushed off our feet.
This year we had 2 large deliveries from 2 wholesalers on Thursday to stock us out ready for the weekend and we quickly realised we had no way near enough for the orders that came flooding in.
So Friday saw us have another large delivery as did Saturday morning! And then half way through Saturday our fresh flower stock ran dry with us still needing to make-up orders for Sunday delivery.
And so our brilliant wholesalers delivered us even more on Sunday morning at 7am (clocks had gone forward so in-fact it was 6am!). We worked tirelessly to make sure all of your mum's received their flowers and we are happy to say all went perfectly with only a couple of small hiccups.

So we would like to say a massive thank you to all our customers for supporting us this year and making 2017 Mother's Day our busiest yet!

Now to chill - oh wait we missed our day off, till next weekend it is then!

Post 17. Flower Food
So a rather controversial topic but we don't buy, supply or stock 'flower food', why?
1. Our flowers are fresh, we buy stock little and often meaning when it gets to you it's still fresh as a daisy 😉

2. We look after the flowers when they arrive with us, we condition them and give them a good drink.

3. A clean vase is the best thing you can do to lengthen the life of your flowers, so change the water often and really give your vase a good clean.

4. A drop of bleach in your vase of clean water is a miracle worker, but we mean an actual drop - don't go poring it in!

Supermarkets give you flower food because their flowers are already old!

Post 16. Being Invited to 10 Downing Street

At the event we were able to meet the other 99 Small Businesses featured by Small Business Saturday and find out more about each others success.
Small Business Saturday is on Saturday 3rd December and we will be offering 10% off all bouquets and plants.

Post 7. 09/07/2015 Tom and Lisa Wedding - 2nd July
So this time last week we were busy setting up and arranging the flowers for Tom and Lisa at the beautiful venue that is Southend Barns. It was our first wedding at this venue and we were blown away by the lovely setting. The once was diary farm has been transformed into a breathtaking wedding venue and the friendly staff made it even more inviting. Lisa and Tom chose the classic shade peach for their theme and we had great pleasure in creating their flowers with over 70 stems of peach avalanche roses alongside crisp white hydrangea, ivory avalanche roses, scented oriental lilies and much more, check out the pics below sent to us by the happy couple!

We have come along way since we first opened moving from our original premises to the larger shop next door, we run 3 successful workshops, we work with many companies on and around Hayling, we do floral demonstrations, work with lots of brides and grooms, and of course serve your floral needs on a day to day basis!

Thank you for your continued support, remember Seaside Florist is sticking around!

Kindest Regards
Liza and Helen x

Post 3. 17/03/2015 Mother's Day 2015
Firstly we would like to thank all of our customers for their custom. We had a very successful Mother's Day week and weekend. We had three fresh flower deliveries over the three day weekend, one of them being a last minute delivery on Saturday evening. All our deliveries were done by the Seaside Florist boys aka Pete and Pete my dad and brother. And the shop was open early Sunday morning ready for any last minute orders. Back to normal this week though...

Post 2. 29/01/2015 Our Workshops

We decided to start running our own Flower Arranging Workshops about 2 and half years ago after having so many of our customers remarking on how they would love to have a go a flower arranging. Our first monthly workshop is still going strong at Hayling Island Community Centre and we have between 20 and 30 attendees every month. We run our workshops in a unique way because like to keep it informal and friendly so while there may be a demonstration of what you can create at the beginning it doesn't mean that you can't add your own flair. We have now gone onto run another workshop which is at Horndean Technology College and we are going onto start another one in March on Hayling Island at North Hayling Recreational Hall. There is no sign up for our workshops, we just need to know your coming along so we can save you a space!

Post 1. 15/01/2015 Finding our shop

Liza, my mum had always dream of opening her own florist and I had grown up knowing that one day we would have it. Even though we had talked about it for so many years actually getting our shop happened really quickly.

Although we live on Hayling Island we didn't imagine opening a florist here because already there are already two and it’s not a very big island. So this meant everywhere we went we looked at it as a possible home for our shop. With this is mind while I was still at college my mum and dad went to go and talk to a large retail shopping park and presented them with our business plan. We spent months meeting with them, but as soon as they saw our projected turnover we never heard another thing. It was weird because everything seemed to be going smoothly all the meetings were positive, but our projections were too realistic. We knew we weren't going to be millionaire over night and so they weren't interested.

After this I finished college and enjoyed an extended summer! I then got a job in a high street clothes shop. It was my first taste of working in a big shop and actually reminded me a lot of school. I only lasted about 5 shifts but it did teach me a lot; the main thing being I didn't like working for someone else.

All things must happen for a reason because we found our shop at 26 Rails Lane on Hayling Island. We met with the landlord and within a week we had the keys. The shop was a blank canvas so we added in a sink, worktops and painted the walls and the following week opened our shop.
